wikipedia exceeds $6m donation goal

There may be a few issues with the reliability of entries on Wikipedia, but even so its surely so much better that it continues to exist and be improved upon. Here’s a recent article from The Register – through public donations Wikipedia’s future is guaranteed for more than a year.

    Wikipedia might not be flawless but I agree — glad to see it is surviving :)
    I like the idea of a such a vast communal resource which can grow and evolve in future. To quote founder Jimmy Wales:

    Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge.

    I must say that I was sufficiently freaked by the thought of Wikipedia not surviving or having adverts that i gemmied open my own rust covered purse. Clearly that was enough to tip the balance ;-)
